Since 2012 Cinema Bioscoop organises film screenings in singular sessions or in festivals to promote the Dutch language cinema and culture. With a diversified offer of long and short films, such as documentaries, video art, animations etc, Cinema Bioscoop creates the best environment that boosts networking among professionals, but also a fun night! Besides that we also arrange conversations with filmmakers and their teams, and lectures by film specialists, so that the audience has the opportunity to interact in amusing Q&A’s!
Cinema Bioscoop is currently expanding itself internationally, having already organized festivals and screening sessions in Portugal, Netherlands, London and Brussels. At each location we worked closely and with great pleasure with local partners and colleagues in order to make every film screening unique.
We understand that you now don’t want to miss thing, so yes we can keep you up to date, send us a text at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In 2015 Cinema Bioscoop created the event 7 DAYS SHORT, an exciting competition between three selected teams of aspiring filmmakers, who in a race against time, have to make a short film in just 7 days. This annual event brings together ambitious, growing filmmakers in the Dutch cinema industry to make a Dutch language film. Besides that, the films are later subtitled in a ‘subtitle workshop’ in collaboration with the Dutch Language Union and the Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven campus Brussels. A nice award is always offered to the winner team during the premiere at the Cinema Bioscoop Festival in Brussels.
Cinema Bioscoop stimulates the use of the Dutch language in film by creating a platform abroad especially for Dutch film and by collaborating with other cinematic events in order to show these films. As Dutch is only spoken by a relatively small group of people, it’s important to provide subtitles for the international showing of a Dutch film.
Ever since its first festival in Lisbon (2012), Cinema Bioscoop provides subtitles for all of its programmed films. To make it easier, we supply subtitles in the language of the country where we are screening. In 2016 Cinema Bioscoop started organizing workshops for subtitling Dutch films.
Together with the Dutch Language Union and the KU Leuven campus Brussels, Cinema Bioscoop offers language professionals the opportunity to acquire proficiency in subtitling movies. The Faculty of Letters of the KU Leuven campus Brussels has a wide experience in subtitling and has its own subtitling studio with subtitling software where students gradually get familiar with this specific form of translation. Teachers Luc Dierickx and Luc Loonbeek give an inspiring crash course of about 10 hours, in which an introduction to subtitling is given.
By the way we are currently organizing the biggest workshop ever in the history of Cinema Bioscoop! By the end of March 2017, we’ll be in London at the University College London coordinating a subtitle workshop for around 80 students!
As future projects, we are now planning to organize 4 more workshops at SAE Amsterdam. Reach us at email@example.com to learn more!

But we now feel in the responsability of contextualizing you: on the last years we established several partnerships in different cities of the Netherlands and Portugal, in London and Brussels, in Aruba, Italy and China with organizations and institutions interested in expanding our mission.
Cinema Bioscoop aims to distribute Dutch language cinema worldwide, so that we can reach a larger audience and show them the diversity of our cinema industry. But we wish to exhibit non-commercial films, so we focus in screening Dutch language films from aspiring filmmakers that are now starting in the industry.
As the saying goes “The more, the merrier”, Cinema Bioscoop wishes to boost its network in order to spread the Dutch and Flemish language cinema through Europe and abroad, and create an intercultural understanding between individuals.
That said, let’s have coffee someday and talk about great new ideas, potential partnerships, our passion for Dutch films or the importance of the Dutch language as a cultural heritage. We will bring the stroopwafels! Say hi at email@example.com.
